Description for In My Heart: A Book of Feelings Hardcover. ![]() ![]() My Review (SPOILERS!!! Seriously do not read this review if you want to read this book) We Were Liars is a story that begs to be read in one sitting. Lazy days of sticky lemonades on the roof and marathon Scrabble games give way to twisty suspense, true love, and good intentions gone horribly wrong. Prejudice, greed, and shifting patriarchal favoritism among the three adult sisters contrasts with the camaraderie and worldview of the teenage cousins and their dear friend Gat. We Were Liars is the story of those annual reunions in particular what happened during a summer that protagonist Cadence is unable to remember. ![]() Each summer the wealthy, seemingly perfect, members of the Sinclair family gather on their private island. ![]() Lockhart’s novel, We Were Liars, is clever, alluring, and wildly addictive. ![]() ![]() The prison-industrial complex must be dissolved. Instead, Purnell asserts, society needs to eliminate its reliance on policing. From South Africa to Ferguson, Missouri (where the Black Lives Matter movement was ignited after the police shooting death of the unarmed Black teenager, Michael Brown) from Reconstruction to contemporary protests against police shootings, Purnell looks at the roots of police reform and the ways it has failed and will continue to fail. In Becoming Abolitionists, Purnell highlights social movements and activists through time and space, the lessons learned from them, and the elements of policing that no longer serve us. Since the police cannot be reformed, they should be abolished. Instead, she believes, new systems need to be created to address the root causes of violence. This is the assertion of human rights lawyer Derecka Purnell. ![]() ![]() Are we supposed to believe that Nina solves the divorce issue with a two minute conversation with Kate? “I like books and you like books. More than once the author hints at the fact that there’s something off about her job situation. The title and cover make it seems like a physical brick and mortar book shop when the story is obviously about a book shop on wheels.Ģ. It seems the author wanted to give us a perfect little ending where everything is tied up neat and nice, which came off as forced and unrealistic.Įdit: The more I think about this book, the more issues I find.ġ. The romance with Lennox was both unrealistically quick and unbearably predictable. (Not romance, but don’t get me started on the perfect social workers who showed up immediately to help the Clarks.) Marek should have left the novel much earlier - dropping off her books, jumping on his train, and riding off into the night never to be seen again. The first was utterly ridiculous and obviously destined to fail and the second just seemed too good to be true. In fact, both romances seemed a little much, to be honest. The last bit, however, read like a cheesy romance novel.
